The five Danish Steno Diabetes Centers have been established in a public-private partnership between the Danish healthcare system and the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The Novo Nordisk Foundation has awarded a grant to modernize and systematize the current healthcare options for people with diabetes. The grant covers treatment, research, education and cross-sector collaboration as well as new buildings. Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen was established as the first centre on 1 January 2017. The other Danish centres were established in 2018 and 2019.
