Research in Steno Clinic
Integrating research and development in clinical care
Every patient that does not regard us as an attractive partner in participating in research and clinical trials is a missed opportunity. The Clinical Department and outpatient service carry out a number of large long-term industry sponsored clinical trials such as LEADER® and SUSTAIN® and CASCADE® but also investigator driven projects such as PROLONG. Currently, 37 projects involving more than 500 patients are conducted within the clinic.
Representative on-going projects from this long list include the Lira Pump study, in which type 1 diabetes patients treated with insulin pumps are randomised to treatment with Victoza or placebo if they are suboptimally regulated and overweight. We hypothesize that the add-on of Liraglutide to CSII-therapy will reduce insulin requirements, glycemic excursions and body weight and improve glycemic control without increasing the risk of hypoglycemia.
The Diabetes Dietary Study is a cross-sectional study on the eating habits of people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, determinants of healthy and unhealthy eating, and patient preferences and needs in relation to nutrition management. The knowledge will be implemented in future LifeLab activities (the combination of our FoodLab and ActivityLab).
