Steno Diabetes Center Faroe Islands
Improving care for everyone with diabetes
Steno Diabetes Center Faroe Islands (SDCF) began treating patients in January 2023. The centre has a particular focus on developing patient-centred treatment methods, strengthening collaboration across the healthcare system and monitoring diabetes populations across the islands to improve prevention and treatment.
SDCF was established as a partnership between the Government of the Faroe Islands (Landsstyret) and the Novo Nordisk Foundation, with the government funding existing activities and the foundation supporting further development and research.
Annually, the centre is expected to treat 600-700 people with diabetes and 800-900 people with other endocrine diseases.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation has committed up to DKK 123 million (€16 million) for SDCF. The funding period runs until 2033, with a possible extension thereafter.
