Steno Diabetes Center Zealand (Danish only)

Steno Diabetes Center Zealand (SDCS) opened in 2019 with a particular focus on tackling health inequity in diabetes and related complications, and minimizing the risk of socially disadvantaged people developing the disease.

Around 10,000 people receive treatment at the centre every year, but the ambition is that everyone with diabetes in the region (around 45,000 people) will notice an improvement in their care through the work of the centre.

Due to the region’s decentralised hospital structure, SDCS has several locations. It is also integrated into the region’s mental health services.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation has committed up to DKK 835 million (€112 million) for SDCS. The funding period runs until 2028, with a possible extension thereafter.
